2008 Section Meeting

The Southwestern Section of the IAEI met in beautiful Monterey, California at the Monterey Marriott on September 7–11, 2008. There were 138 attendees, 60 partners and 21 displayers in attendance.

The Northern California Chapter hosted a welcoming reception Sunday night at the Monterey Marriott. The meeting officially began Monday morning with our opening ceremonies and introduction of the displayers. The educational program began after lunch with Keith Lofland’s presentation of "IAEI One- and Two-Family Dwellings." John Taecker finished out the day with a presentation on "Green Buildings and Energy Code Requirements." Monday evening there was a Strolling Dinner at the Monterey Maritime Museum with appetizers, barbeque and wine tasting.

Tuesday morning started bright and early with our yearly "Code Breakfast," and continued with the presentation of 2011 NEC proposals submitted by the IAEI chapters. The luncheon presentation was "Gray Areas in the NEC," and the afternoon continued with presentations on "IAEI Analysis of ’08 NEC – Major Changes" and "Variable Frequency Drives – The Basics."

The business meeting and Secretaries’ Luncheon took place on Wednesday, followed by the continuation of the educational meeting. The remainder of the chapter 2011 NEC proposals were presented to the assembly and voted on by the inspector members. Of the 53 proposals presented, 38 were approved by the membership for forwarding to the International Office. Mark Earley presented "NFPA-NEC Adoption Issues and Concerns" to finish the day. A reception and banquet were held that evening, and the 2009 section officers were installed. The new section officers are listed on the section website at www.iaeisw.com.

The educational meeting continued Thursday morning with a presentation on the new article "Critical Operations Power Systems – Article 708 Overview" and "Solar Photovoltaics – Equipment Testing and Listing." The meeting adjourned at noon on Thursday.

The partner’s program was very successful this year, and included tickets to the Monterey Aquarium, a bus tour of famous movie sites on Tuesday, and a culinary class on Wednesday. The next section meeting is scheduled for October 18–22, 2009 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
