2012 Southwestern Section Meeting
Doubletree Mission Valley
San Diego, California
Annual Meeting in San Diego, California
August 26 – August 30, 2012
The Southwestern Section of IAEI met in San Diego, California at the Doubletree Mission Valley Hotel on August 26-30, 2012. With approximately 160 attendees and 22 exhibitors, our meeting grew substantially this year.
Education
We had a strong, well-received educational program this year. Attendees were able to earn 2.0 CEU for attending the entire agenda of educational presentations. Topics included photovoltaic wiring methods and the Solar 3.0 program, short circuit rating of equipment, health care wiring methods, electric vehicle charging stations, grounding and bonding, and a review of several Chapter 7 Articles.
Attendees also had the opportunity to consider 2014 NEC comments from Section members and chapters. Several of the comments were approved by the attendees and sent to the International Office for consideration by the Code Clearing Committee.
Our one-day CEU offering was very successful, as well. Having a separate registration for a one day program allowed local inspectors and electricians the opportunity to earn 1.0 CEU and experience our meeting for the first time without having to miss work for an entire week.
Business
The Section Board of Directors met the Sunday prior to the start of the meeting. A Secretaries Luncheon was held Wednesday to allow Chapter Secretaries and other interested members to share ideas and best practices with their counterparts in the Section, as well as share information with IAEI staff. The business session included reports from our Section as well as reports from other organizations, such as NFPA and ICC.
Networking
Attendees included inspectors, building officials, contractors, engineers and manufacturers. Our annual meeting provides an opportunity for IAEI members from all sectors of the electrical industry to gather and share experiences, viewpoints and other information. This meeting proved to be a valuable opportunity for attendees to create connections with other regional industry members in the Southwest United States, as well as industry experts from across the country.
Social
Monday night, everyone gathered at the USS Midway for a fun night of food and entertainment. The USS Midway Museum is a real naval aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy for 47 years. Large and very impressive, it has real jets and airplanes up on the flight deck that attendees could walk into and even sit in the cockpits of some of the planes. Tuesday, the partners had a great time exploring Old Town San Diego on a full day historical tour and shopping trip. Wednesday night, we held our awards presentation banquet and installation of officers. Our new slate of officers is posted at www.iaeisw.com.
